Does the mother and her children fall into the class of the working poor? I don't know. But I see so many people who work so hard to make ends meet-- even ushering their kids out in the early morning just so the parent can get to work and earn minimum or near minimum wage.
My co-worker is so 'numb' to reality, and the disgusting thing about it is she refuses to see how she is. She lets me know 'she isn't racist' and 'goes to a church that has 'a Korean man as its minister' -- oh yeah, and that the current Obama Administration is moving the country towards, as she claims, "a dictatorship"... sorry, I'm just so tired of this co-worker... My condolences to the mother who lost her child and I wish more folks would understand the realities of the working poor. Obviously my co-worker doesn't understand, nor does she wish to understand because to do so would upturn the world in which she has taken refuge.
I know I'm venting, but know one thing: the incident like the one that happened this morning and having to contend with individuals like my co-worker inspires me even more to continue to fight for economic justice and social equality. OK, I'm done with this post-- BUT I'M NOT DONE WITH THE FIGHT.
